Stephen Craigan tells Rangers to look at Celtic as an ‘example’ after reaching League Cup final

Celtic booked their League Cup final ticket in style over the weekend.

It was a different story for Rangers because they had to come from a goal down to narrowly beat Motherwell.

Only 24 hours earlier, Celtic hit Aberdeen for six at Hampden in a showing of pure domination and ruthless nature from Brendan Rodgers’ side.

It shouldn’t be a surprise, but the manner in which Celtic and Rangers reached the final was chalk and cheese.

The champions did it by sticking their chest out and showing the world that they can dispatch the second-best team in Scotland like no one’s business.

Daizen Maeda was the hero for Celtic with his hat-trick, with Rodgers able to put the likes of Liam Scales, Greg Taylor, Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah on the bench.

Meanwhile, Rangers stumbled over a line in yet another unconvincing performance from Philippe Clement’s side and they were sent a simple message by Stephen Craigan.

Rangers told to look at Celtic in how to break down low blocks

As expected, Motherwell turned up to Hampden to sit back and look to break Rangers on the counter-attack.

That meant playing a pretty low block and Rangers struggled to break it down, with their sleep-walking style of play putting shame on their name and the money they have spent on that squad.

That’s why Stephen Craigan told Rangers to look at Celtic and how they break down teams with a low block.

Craigan added that Celtic have ‘incredible’ movement, as well as ‘runners’ and ‘pace’ beyond the ball, hence their success, as he told Premier Sports (03/11/24 at 5:20 pm).

“When you come to Celtic and I know that’s going to come in the final, but their movement is incredible,” said Craigan.

“The number of runners they have beyond the ball. The pace they have beyond the ball. That should be an example of a team on how to break down a low block.”

Celtic’s win over Motherwell compared to Rangers’ win

It took Rangers 49 minutes to get going against Motherwell, before they nicked the winner nine minutes from time.

Added to that, Clement played his strongest possible XI compared to the Bhoys’ performance and result against the same opposition last month in the Premiership.

Callum McGregor was absent for the Motherwell win, with Celtic winning 3-0 and easing to three points at Fir Park.
