Although the Celtic fans will have been pretty disappointed with the team’s draw and performance against Motherwell on Saturday, Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell wouldn’t have been.
His team earned a valuable point after Kevin Van Veen’s goal cancelled out Callum McGregor’s opener and even though his side’s game management tactics were called into question, the only thing that matters to the Motherwell boss is that he took a point away from Parkhead.
Kettlewell was very complimentary about our team prior to the match and even after taking some criticism from our fans, his view on what Celtic have achieved in Scottish football hasn’t changed.
Speaking on the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast, Kettlewell said, “I think we always knew that this was going to be our sternest test. You just look at Celtic’s record, you look at their level of performance.
“I think I spoke about it before the game. It’s just incredible what they have done as a football club. The standards they set, the style of football, the energy, the buy-in from the players.
“We could go through every single facet of the game. It has been pretty amazing.”
In the bigger picture, the result on Saturday won’t have any bearing on the destination of the title. And in truth, it was up to Celtic to negate the tactics that Motherwell deployed. On the day, we just weren’t good enough.
Celtic now face a trip to Tynecastle where a win will ensure we are officially crowned champions for the second year in a row. We also have the prospect of another treble should the team get past Rangers on Sunday.
Considering the shambles that Ange Postecoglou picked up when he was hired as the Celtic manager, I agree with Kettlewell. What Celtic are doing is incredible.
