Celtic face Sturm Graz in the Europa League and one of the Austrian clubs’ cult heroes has sent them a double warning.
Celtic are still smarting from the loss to Dundee and Brendan Rodgers has come out fighting this week.
The Celtic boss has come in for some flak this week after his Honda Civic comments and will be looking to put them to bed with a big win over Sturm Graz.
The Celtic supporters, however, are at odds with the board as they seek change in the leadership at the club.
So with all that going on, Sturm Graz will be looking to take advantage and beat a Celtic team that seems distracted and low on confidence, right?
Well that thought has been blown right out of the water as former defender Johnny Ertl sends his old club two warnings about Celtic and the fans.
Sturm Graz warned Celtic are ‘looking to make amends’ in the Europa League
Ertl went on a scouting mission of Celtic for a media outlet back in Austria and what the former Sturm Graz defender found out serves as a warning to Rodgers’ Europa League opponents.
Ertl told Austrian outlet Kronen, “It will be a very exciting encounter. Celtic are looking to make amends; they’ve managed a draw against Red Star in the Europa League so far, lost at home to Braga, and now lost 2-0 away to Dundee in the league.
“There are an incredible number of fan protests, especially because manager Brendan Rodgers keeps saying that the summer transfer window wasn’t what he envisioned. So the whole club is in a bit of a pickle right now.
“The fan culture and support here are incredible. Every Sturm fan will return home with an incredible number of stories.
“The first 15 minutes will be very important!”
What Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers said about facing Sturm Graz
Rodgers is looking forward to the tie that is expected to be played in front of at least 50,000 supporters.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, the Celtic manager said when asked about a possible change of formation, “Yeah, I think that’s what I have to do, but at the same time, you’re having to find some level of stability as well.
“I think we’ve obviously had important players injured as well, which makes a difference to our level. But yeah, it’s certainly something, stability is important, and that hopefully allows you to find the tempo and the speed in the game that you actually want, and to deliver the best performance that you can.”
