This isn’t a great time to be a Celtic fan.
It’s crazy to say, given the number of trophies Celtic have won in recent times, including the fact that they missed out on the Treble by a kick of a football just last season.
But with Wilfried Nancy losing his first three matches in charge, including the League Cup final to St Mirren on Sunday, these are troubling times for all involved.
The call to appoint Nancy after Martin O’Neill’s interim spell in charge is proving more disastrous by the minute, and Tam McManus thinks it’s now proving to be an ‘extraordinary error.’
Is this the worst Celtic have been in ‘over 30 years’?
Celtic and Wilfried Nancy’s situation after defeat to St Mirren
Following Celtic’s defeat to St Mirren, McManus stated that the Hoops had to endure a ‘brutal second-half performance’ against Stephen Robinson’s side.
But the former Hibernian player went one further, and added on social media that this is the poorest he has seen the champions of Scotland in ‘over 30 years.’
“Celtic currently looking like they have made an extraordinary error with the hire of Wilfried Nancy,” stated McManus.
“But the errors in recruitment are now becoming glaringly obvious. As poor a Celtic team as I have seen in over 30 years; there is so little quality in that squad.
“Brutal 2nd half performance, bullied and outplayed. Liam Scales, playing left wing, summed it up.
“St Mirren outstanding though and thoroughly deserve to lift the cup, delighted for all the Buddies, Stephen Robinson & Brian Kerr. Enjoy the celebrations!!”
Is this the end for Wilfried Nancy?
Celtic’s January transfer window
The issue Celtic are facing is that they must either sack Nancy or properly back him beyond the January transfer window.
If they do back him, then it means bringing in players that are suited to his system, which just isn’t working right now.
So, what areas need quality, balance and the correct skilled players ahead of the winter transfer window re-opening?
- Right and left-sided wing-backs
- Right-sided centre-back
- Striker
