‘That’s a problem’ – The £10m Celtic deal that has Alan Hutton worried

Celtic will have a job on their hands replacing Kyogo Furuhashi after selling the striker to Rennes for £10m.

The Japan international wanted to leave Celtic Park after Kyogo made it clear his international ambitions motivated the move to Rennes.

After Celtic announced the transfer, former Rangers defender, Alan Hutton, still sounds worried even though the striker has permanently left the club.

Michael Stewart has backed Celtic to find a replacement for Kyogo soon and that has sparked Hutton’s fears about what the Parkhead club could do in the transfer market.

Hutton told The Scottish Football Social Club [50m], “I do get it from a fan’s point of view. I mean, Michael’s right, he has been a talisman. I’m quite happy to see him leaving if I’m totally honest because he’s been a thorn in our [Rangers’] side for a long period of time.

“So I didn’t mind it. But from a serious Celtic fan’s point of view, I can totally get it with the type of player that he is, and they want to kick on.”

“But I’m with Michael,” Hutton continued, “He’s 30 now, and wants a new challenge, fine, you’ve done really well for us, but they must have somebody coming in.

“But you need to remember if a player comes to you and wants to leave the club that changes everything. What do you want to do, just hold them there? No, you have to stay?

“He’s got to go. They’ve done the right thing. But if they bring in Jota and bring in a number nine and the numbers he’s got, that’s a problem front three.”

Celtic’s capture of Jota has boosted the fans who were feeling deflated after Kyogo left the club this week.

The Portuguese winger was a huge favourite in his first spell at the club and if Jota can produce the same form as he did under former Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou, then hopefully, the loss of the Japanese striker won’t be felt this season much, if at all.
