‘That’s bad business’ – Open Goal pundit calls out Celtic fans and backs board’s transfer strategy

The Celtic board have plenty of opposition at the moment.

Of course, most of that is made up by infuriated Celtic fans who are extremely frustrated by the lack of spending and big-money signings this summer.

The Hoops have signed seven senior players with just three weeks of the window left, but they’ve only spent around £4m, the biggest outlay being on Benjamin Nygren.

Celtic need two wingers and arguably another striker before September 1, with Brendan Rodgers also desperate to beef up his squad for the campaign ahead.

But Open Goal pundit Gordon Dalziel has actually backed the Celtic board for how they may be approaching transfer negotiations this summer.

Gordon Dalziel sides with Celtic board over transfer strategy

Dalziel admits he’s totally on board with the Celtic hierarchy and criticised fans for how they supposedly see transfer business and how it should be conducted.

Asked why he thinks Celtic are not getting their targets signed quickly enough, Dalziel said: “There’s two things to it, and I do agree with the Celtic board here, I’m totally on board.

“People know that Celtic have got money, right? Now, they’ve been stung with £9m for Idah. So if they value a player at £6m, and the opposite team go: ‘Do you know what? I want £9m’.

“You can’t just – Celtic fans have got this in their heads: ‘Ach we’re cash rich, just pay the £9m.’ That’s bad business!”

Celtic’s summer signings so far

The Hoops did well to bring Kieran Tierney back on a free transfer and sign Benjamin Nygren for just £2m from FC Nordsjælland.

But the rest, at this moment in time, don’t appear to be players who will immediately strengthen the starting XI this season.

Ross Doohan will be third choice goalkeeper, while Callum Osmand and Hayato Inamura are players for the future.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey could be a regular alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers, but that isn’t for sure just yet.

Shin Yamada hasn’t been seen in a Celtic jersey yet despite signing on July 19, and it’s unknown how he will fit into the squad.
