The day that the Parkhead faithful have been craving for several weeks now is finally here.

Jota has officially been confirmed as a Celtic player.

The club announced the 23-year-old’s permanent move to Glasgow earlier this morning, with the winger signing up on a long-term deal.

Of course, the Celtic support’s reaction to the move was one of delight after seeing the fan’s favourite from last season making his return.

However, not everyone has been left happy with the news of Jota’s move – particularly those involved at Benfica.

Having come through the academy at his boyhood club, big things were expected from the Portuguese youngster, who was also impressing on the international stage.

But, after a disappointing loan spell in 2020/21 with Spanish club Real Valladolid, the winger was once again shipped out on loan to Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Included in the loan agreement was an option to buy of around £6.3 million, which Celtic have now taken full advantage of that, bringing Jota back for a bargain deal.

According to Sky Sports Anthony Joseph, including the option-to-buy in the deal has left Benfica with a lot of regret for allowing the talented wideman to leave on such a cheap deal.

Not only are Benfica as a club unhappy with the deal, but it also appears sections of the Portuguese side’s fan base are disappointed to see a homegrown talent depart.

It is fantastic business by Ange Postecoglou and all those involved in the deal to quickly get the winger back to Parkhead as a permanent Celtic player.

Last season, Jota showed his quality, scoring 13 goals and setting up a further 14. So, the move to bring him back was an absolute no-brainer.

Thankfully, last summer, the club included the option to buy, which now looks to have been an incredible decision.

Now, we can look forward to seeing the winger take to the Celtic Park pitch, wearing the green and white Hoops once again.
