The big Celtic injury concerns ahead of Aberdeen on Sunday; Ange's options
Celtic looked to largely come through Thursday night’s pulsating match against Bayer Leverkusen unscathed.
However, there is at least one injury concern ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership clash against Aberdeen that could see Ange Postecoglou switch the team around.
Nir Bitton was forced off in the second half after picking up a debilitating head knock that saw him prone on the pitch on two occasions after it occurred.
Head knocks and potential concussion issues are rightly taken more seriously in football these days, so that could cause a selection problem for Postecoglou, who isn’t blessed with many viable midfield options as it is. There was no immediate update on Bitton after last night’s match, with no press conference occurring either.
Tom Rogic was close to making Thursday night’s match squad in Germany, though the manager preferred to leave him out to rest him up for Sunday, per his pre-match comments.
There’s no guarantee the Australian will be ready for the Dons, but that is at least one option that Postecoglou can turn to, with McGregor reverting back to the ‘number 6’ role.
James McCarthy and Ismaila Soro are also available, should Rogic not return from his hamstring issue in time.
Meanwhile, Carl Starfelt is unlikely to be available for the visit of Stephen Glass’ side. Postecoglou said prior to the Leverkusen trip that he was a few days behind Rogic’s recovery, which pushes his availability to next week’s match at home to Hearts.
Giorgos Giakoumakis will also miss out with a knee injury. The manager suggested recently that this problem will require further investigation by a specialist.
