Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has refuted claims that his upcoming match against Celtic is meaningless, pointing out it’s worth a lot of money for both clubs.
Celtic are guaranteed to finish bottom of Group E in the UEFA Champions League, with Feyenoord assured of third place and a parachute into the Europa League.
It could be seen as a dead rubber. However, with Celtic searching for their first home win in the tournament for many years and millions of pounds on the line, it could still be a competitive encounter.
Feyenoord boss on Celtic match
Slot certainly thinks so, stating this week [Daily Record]: “A number of people at Feyenoord have already pointed out to me that a win is worth 2.7 million Euros several times.
“The game in Glasgow against Celtic really counts for something because we have played four great matches and one bad one in the Champions League and we want to make it five good games out of six.
“I believe we have put Feyenoord on the football map in the world because of the way we have played in this competition. I know it has impressed many people. We played one bad game against Atletico Madrid at home and that is why we want to prove ourselves one more time at Champions League level in a very difficult away match against Celtic.
“It’s also important for us as a club to say goodbye to the Champions League in a dignified and professional way.”

Over £2m coming Celtic’s way is nothing to sniff at despite the club’s strong financial status.
Most importantly, Brendan Rodgers’ team will want to deliver a bit of professional pride and give home fans something to cheer for after another disappointing year in Europe.
Earning a win at this level will also help these players find confidence, take a step forward and better prepare for another tilt at next year’s edition, should the Bhoys’ qualify.
