Celtic’s 3-2 win against Motherwell was a roller-coaster ride.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have been criticised for being boring to watch, but Sunday’s game – particularly the second half – was anything but.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Celtic necessarily played better, there was just more goalmouth action. Motherwell’s style of play led to an open encounter.

But the game, which eventually was won by a last-minute Daizen Maeda winner, could provide the positive momentum that the team needs to gain the trust of the fans.

The atmosphere at the end of the game was a joyous one – but that wasn’t always the case.

Hugh Keevins on Celtic atmosphere vs Motherwell

At the low points this season, the atmosphere at Celtic Park has been a mix of anger and apathy.

The team have been inconsistent on the pitch, but one thing which is more certain is the fans’ feelings towards the Celtic board.

For Hugh Keevins, speaking on Clyde Superscoreboard, there were noises of anxiety and an unusual atmosphere at the stadium.

He also revealed what he had been told during the match about Brendan Rodgers “I was told by people that were there – in the crowd, not in the press box – it was the most un-Celtic like atmosphere inside the ground.

“At 2-1 down, there was anxiety. One pal of mine even texted me with the name of the man he thinks should be the next Celtic manager.

“So that was at 2-1 down. At 3-2, it was all different.”

It was far from the most straightforward game to watch for any crowd – but in the end, it was all worth it.

The atmosphere situation at Celtic Park

The Celtic Fans Collective announced plans for a silent protest amid communication issues with the club’s board – however, after Monday’s meeting was agreed, the plans were shelved.

When the Hoops side isn’t performing, frustrations quickly turn towards the club’s board, whose popularity is at an all-time low.

Whether anything comes of the meeting between the collective and the board remains to be seen.

But the atmosphere would be helped by any improvement in trust – the ball is very much in the Celtic board’s court.
