Celtic stretched their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a comprehensive win over St Mirren.

The Buddies put up a good fight and fought back from being behind twice as the Bhoys eventually beat St Mirren 5-2 at the SMISA Stadium.

Celtic’s turned the screw after Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers made his second-half substitutions and Hyunjun Yang hit a late brace as the South Korean’s impressive impact as a cameo player continues.

However, as the Celtic manager welcomed the three points, St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson got salty in his post-match Sky Sports interview about a ‘penalty’ his team were not awarded.

Stephen Robinson says 5-2 St Mirren scoreline ‘flattered’ Celtic

Robinson took his usual Sky Sports interview after the match when he says the final scoreline ‘flattered’ Celtic.

Robinson said, “Not performance-wise, no, but we can see two goals at the end. It’s obviously maybe flattered Celtic a little bit with it, but we have to defend both goals better, no matter what the circumstances leading up to those goals were.

“So can’t really make excuses about that. I thought the level of performance was very high. We didn’t sit back. We pressed Celtic. We took the ball off them on lots of occasions, and we had lots of chances against them, but we didn’t take those chances and teams punish you, unfortunately.”

Stephen Robinson claims the Celtic bench knew St Mirren should have had a penalty

There was an incident with a few minutes to go and the score at 3-2 where Alistair Johnston made a challenge on a St Mirren attacker that

Robinson continued, “I think everybody knows it was a penalty. I think the Celtic bench knew it was a penalty.

“I mean, he gets a slight touch and then follows through and balls at our players feet, and he takes it in a completely different direction than the tackle, so we don’t get it, which is not really a surprise, and they got the other end and score. So football’s cruel at times. Certainly was cruel in the boys today.

Reporter: “What did you say to the fourth official? Because I saw you speaking with him.”

Robinson: “Listen, things happen so fast., that’s what VAR is there for. He was fine the fourth official wasg was very good. He told me it was being checked. We were convinced that we were going to get the penalty, but it wasn’t to be.”

Reporter: “If that’s getting checked is that not obviously then? If you feel it’s a penalty, it’s not my opinion, it’s yours, surely you feel it’s a penalty, why would they not give that?”

Robinson: “You’re saying it because that’s your opinion as well..”

Reporter: “No, no, it’s not my opinion, I’m looking for your opinion.

Robinson: “My opinion doesn’t matter; it wasn’t given.”

Clearly unhappy, Robinson will undoubtedly be looking forward to the next KMI Panel verdict and Willie Collum’s VAR Review Show to see if St Mirren were actually wronged by VAR against Celtic.
