Everyone knows it’s a matter of time before Celtic are crowned champions of Scotland for the 2024/25 Premiership season.

But that doesn’t mean that Celtic’s upcoming showdown against Rangers is going to mean any less, in fact, it will mean more.

Not only will Celtic want to put the wrongs of the Ibrox horror show from the New Year behind them, but Rodgers also has the chance of piling more misery on Barry Ferguson’s side.

Things have been made that little sweeter that Ferguson is now in the opposing dugout, as he will watch first-hand as Celtic cause carnage against his side and on the way to the title.

It just adds that extra spice and flavour to an already hotly-contested Glasgow derby that will forever be explosive, no matter where it is played.

Over the years and decades, there have been many, many great moments for the Celtic Park fans to cherish and you can pick many from the last few years alone.

But, back in 2008, you perhaps had a quite iconic moment, involving Ferguson that has become even more memorable now.

Celtic’s Georgios Samaras makes Rangers’ Barry Ferguson flinch at Ibrox

Georgios Samaras was a joy to watch as a footballer, forget about goals or anything else, you could just watch him stroll on the pitch like he is in the back garden and do whatever he wished.

The Greek star was as calm as they come, but in 2008, he scared the life out of Ferguson in his own back yard.

Celtic were facing Rangers for their typical festive game and the scores were 0-0 when the away side were awarded a free-kick.

Samaras was keen to take a quick free-kick, but he had the annoying presence of Ferguson standing in front of him.

Rather than push him away, Samaras pretended to throw the ball in his face, with Ferguson flinching like someone was aiming a rocket at his face, before the expression on his face said it all.

Frame it up!

As mentioned, you could watch Samaras play football all day, every day, and he was a fan favourite.

The 40-year-old started his Celtic career in 2008, before heading for the exit door in 2014 and joining West Brom.

Samaras, who also played for Manchester City before the big money transformed their club, spent his best years in the colours of Celtic and he had the trophies to show for it.
