Kyogo Furuhashi has had a really tough time at Rennes since leaving Celtic for France in January.
Kyogo has barely featured for Rennes since his £10m move and even though manager Habib Beye has no issue with the Celtic hero, the Japan striker has still struggled to convince him he can be part of his plans moving forward.
Rennes struggled in Ligue 1 last season and finished in 12th place just eight points above the relegation places and even though Kyogo was a prolific goal scorer at Celtic, Beye still refused to put him in the starting lineup as the French club struggled.
However, it appears that Kyogo’s future at Rennes may well have had the final nail driven into its coffin after the Ligue 1 club’s president shared a ‘sporting project’ that they are embarking on that is not good news for the Japan star.

Habib Beye’s contract talks at Rennes are bad news for Celtic icon Kyogo
Habib Beye is contracted to Rennes until the end of next season. After taking over from the man who signed Kyogo from Celtic, it appears that Frenchman is set to be offered a new deal to extend his stay at the club.
That’s according to executive chairman Arnaud Pouille.
Pouille told Ouest-France, “There is no reason why we would say that we will not continue with him.
“Habib has been on a positive dynamic, over the four months he has spent at the club. He has brought energy, the graft has taken, with a consistent points average.”
“Loïc Désiré [sporting director] has had extremely positive discussions with Habib Beye, and it’s Loïc who will embody the sporting project.
“We must respect that, the alignment that the family and the shareholders have established. The issue is how we build around Habib Beye in the project.”
So it appears that if Beye is set for a long-term future at Rennes, Kyogo’s pecking order at the club is unlikely to improve.
Will Kyogo Furuhashi ever return to Celtic?
The question should really be would Celtic want him back? There is a current trend at the club right now where former players are being welcomed back.
Brendan Rodgers has allowed Jota and Kieran Tierney to return to Celtic so why not Kyogo? Age could well be a factor. At 30, the Japan striker would have no sell-on value.
Price could also be an issue. If Rennes want to try and get a return on the £10m they splashed out on Kyogo then Celtic would not entertain that.
But just as important, would Kyogo like to return to a club where he has been told that he has next to no chance of another Japan cap if he stayed at Celtic?
Who knows what the future holds now for Kyogo but it’s almost certainly not going to be at Celtic.
