‘Make a splash somewhere’ – Kyogo appears resigned to Rennes exit future as Celtic hero honest over future

Kyogo has had a tough time at Rennes since he moved from Celtic in January.

The striker was humiliated by his manager against PSG while journalists in both France and his homeland of Japan have urged Kyogo to “pack his bags” and depart the club he joined for £10million just two months ago.

Playing time has been limited for the 30-year-old after Kyogo “lost the trust” of Habib Beye, Rennes manager, with an old shoulder injury plaguing him.

He has managed just 112 minutes from four appearances and is yet to find the net.

Kyogo may have accepted his Rennes fate

So it has been a frustrating time for Kyogo. And speaking to Japan’s Nikkan Sports, the frontman admitted as much, saying: “It’s a difficult time, but my playing time is gradually increasing.

“I do feel frustrated, but it’s good that I’m experiencing that frustration now.”

Kyogo was Celtic’s number one pick up front before he told Brendan Rodgers he wanted to leave the club.

It was 85 goals in 165 matches for the Hoops with 19 assists thrown in there for good measure.

Now, though – with his Ligue 1 life not working out – the striker appears resigned to the fact that he may not be longed for a career in France.

“I’m running, hoping that one pass out of 10 will be enough. It’s not good for a forward to stop moving there. I’m running and communicating,” he added.

“I believe I can make a splash somewhere. To that end, I want to prepare well and polish the areas I can on the pitch so that I can perform well when I’m on the field, and I want to stay positive and do my best.”

Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu called Kyogo into his squad and the player has been relieved to be involved. Even if he’s not playing at club level.

“I’m grateful to have been called up, and with so many good forwards, I hope to be able to show my strengths. The national team has scored a lot of goals, so I would like to score as well if I get the chance to play.”
