The Green Brigade have announced that £59,585, with seven vans of food bank donations in addition, has been raised from their 2022 Food Drive.
The Celtic supporters’ group have raised the incredible money independently, relying on the generosity and goodwill of thousands of fans at matches and online.
Declaring the total today, The Green Brigade have also made it clear why such fundraising efforts are necessary. A video uploaded to social media highlights that many in Scotland live in poverty, with vulnerable groups especially at risk.
Alongside a GoFundMe campaign, The Green Brigade also held their annual food bank collection on Saturday before the match against Dundee United.
It’s the tenth such collection organised by the group and the money will be drawn and divided across Scotland to various food banks in the run-up to what will be the most challenging of Christmas periods.
The Celtic FC Foundation also recently launched their Christmas Appeal with more big donation amounts expected. That came after the club-affiliated charity announced that £400,000 of their funds would be used to help people in fuel poverty this winter, potentially helping as many as 18,000 people.
Charity has been embedded into the very ethos of the club from its foundation. In the modern day, that’s often led by the generosity of ordinary supporters and it’s fantastic to see so many come together again to help at-risk communities this winter.
Congratulations to all involved, whether an organiser, volunteer or someone who has been in a position to donate money or food bank items.
