The ironic situation facing Celtic hero Kyogo as Birmingham City unveil 62,000-seater stadium plan

There could be the argument that Kyogo Furuhashi’s Celtic exit last January ignited what is now a completely broken relationship between the fans and the board.

It’s not the fact that Kyogo was sold to Rennes that was the problem, but how he wasn’t replaced, and some will argue that the Celtic hero still hasn’t been replaced to this day.

Following the cancellation of Celtic’s AGM on Friday, it’s interesting the situation the champions of Scotland find themselves in, and what Kyogo is currently experiencing at Birmingham City.

Despite the Japan star’s struggles at the English Championship side, where he is still searching for his first league goal after his summer move, the Midlands club are showcasing far more off-field ambition than Kyogo ever experienced in Celtic colours.

One of the issues Celtic have with the board is that the club isn’t achieving its potential, and this ‘that will do’ mentality isn’t enough for the size of the club.

That’s the case now, and when Kyogo was scoring goals for fun in the famous green and white colours.

Yet, at Birmingham City, a team that was in England’s third-tier last season, and have only spent seven seasons in England’s top-flight since 1992, they are showing more ambition than one of the world’s biggest clubs.

On Thursday, Birmingham unveiled plans to build their new 62,000-seater stadium. It’s all in line for the club to reach heights they have never reached before, including returning to the Premier League.

Take note, Celtic…

Poll: Do you have faith in the Celtic board?

Yes, Birmingham have the lure of the Premier League money that entices them to take even bigger financial risks from the standpoint of England’s second-tier.

But Celtic have plenty of money in the bank. A healthy profit, yet they employ people in suits who aren’t willing to maximise what the club can do on the European stage.

You just sense, if Celtic had the ambitious mindset of Birmingham, who have financial backing from NFL legend Tom Brady, then perhaps AGMs wouldn’t be getting cancelled and the club would be on a stronger footing in Europe.
