The new Brendan Rodgers Celtic era should feel a lot more real tomorrow

Celtic are back playing to a crowd and television cameras for the first time in over six weeks tomorrow.

The Hoops are in Japan for the first of two matches. We face reigning J1 League champions Yokohama F. Marinos at the Nissan Stadium at 11am Scottish time.

The vast arena holds 70,000 and has played host to some of the largest sporting events in the world so far this century.

Wednesday’s friendly may not quite match the 2002 World Cup final between Brazil and Germany, but it will still be a pretty exciting one for Celtic fans everywhere.

Those fortunate enough to be inside the stadium should have a ball, while the rest of us will just be glad to see the team back in action.

Sure, we had a couple of friendlies in Portugal last week. And yeah, the club stuck out highlights for the latter one. But it’s been 46 long days since we watched the team win the Scottish Cup final against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

A lot has changed since then, and you know all of that. We’ve become used to the previously unthinkable idea of Brendan Rodgers being our manager again.

But seeing him back on the touchline tomorrow, and watching the team play his way, should really make it all sink in.

It may not seem like it, but we’re actually well in to Celtic’s pre-season schedule. After tomorrow we’ll have just three more friendly matches to go, with our league opener against Ross County just two-and-a-half weeks away.

So things should feel a lot more real tomorrow. Relish it all and enjoy the game.
