The nine Celtic matches that could move after Champions League exit

July 29, 2021

Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic said goodbye to Champions League football last night, and hello to Thursday-Sunday scheduling.

One of the many joys (not really) of playing your European football on a Thursday is that your weekend matches get moved to a Sunday.

The first change is already confirmed, with Celtic breaking their Twitter silence recently to tweet that next weekend’s Dundee match has been moved back by 24 hours.

The game against James McPake’s side isn’t the only one that will be moved either.

The Betfred Cup last 16 clash against Hearts the following week will also be moved from Saturday to Sunday.

And it will become a hat-trick a week later, with our home league clash against St. Mirren suffering the same fate.

Our trip to Ibrox is already confirmed for Sunday 29th August, so no change there.

Celtic set for a lot of Sunday football

Of course, we could well be out of the Europa League in a fortnight but, luckily for us, the Europa Conference League will also be played on a Thursday.

We’ll drop into the Playoff Round of that competition if FK Jablonec get the better of us.

If we make it to the group stage of either competition, six further matches will be moved to the Sunday.

In order, they would be: Livingston (away), Aberdeen (away), St. Johnstone (home), Dundee (away), Aberdeen (home) & Motherwell (home)

Of course, Celtic even making the Conference League group stage shouldn’t be taken for granted at the moment.

But it’s always nice to get ahead of the game isn’t it?
