The Ralf Rangnick Celtic endorsement that gave Junior Adamu the green light

Junior Adamu is one of three players that Celtic signed on Deadline Day.

Martin O’Neill had admitted that he was open to signing another striker, despite the earlier addition of Tomas Cvancara.

This meant that Adamu’s arrival allowed Johnny Kenny to move to Bolton Wanderers, strengthening the Hoops’ attacking depth.

Much like his fellow Deadline Day arrival, Joel Mvuka, one of Adamu’s major motivations behind his Celtic move is the chance to hit form before the World Cup in the summer.

And speaking to the media, he confirmed that he made the move with his international manager’s blessing.

Junior Adamu on Ralf Rangnick’s Celtic blessing

Austria topped a group containing Bosnia, Romania, Cyprus and San Marino to secure their space at their first World Cup since 1998.

They did so under the watch of former-Manchester United interim interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

And speaking at his first media conference as a Celtic player, Adamu confirmed his conversations with both Rangnick and O’Neill before the move.

He said: “”I wanted to have more minutes to play for the World Cup because that’s my goal to reach that.

“I decided to go on loan, and I decided on this club, and I’m really happy to be here.

“I spoke with the manager from the national team [Rangnick] before joining Celtic. He wanted to see me play.

“There were other clubs, he said the other clubs were good, but that I should decide and have a good feeling. I had to speak with the Celtic manager, and then I decided to go to Celtic.

“It feels good to wear the No.9. There are good strikers here. Now it’s my turn to show what I can do and help the team.”

Describing himself as a player, Adamu said: “I’m a striker who is always laughing. On the pitch, I’m a guy who will run for the team, give 100 per cent, and work so that we achieve our goals.

“I am dangerous in the box, where I can score a lot of goals. When I’m outside the pitch, I always laugh, because laughing gives me a good feeling and positive vibes. Positive is my middle name!

“I knew before that Celtic play in the Champions League, and they’ve won the Champions League. For now, I’m here, and we will see in the summer what happens [with a permanent move]. I want to give my best, and we will see what happens.”

Celtic’s January business, summarised

Celtic’s winter saw five signings in total – all of them on loan.

In fairness to the club, three of those came with options to buy, including Adamu. Julian Araujo does not, however, being brought to Glasgow under the watch of Wilfried Nancy.

At the top of Celtic’s wishlist was undoubtedly a striker, which finally arrived in the form of Cvancara, who has already provided goal contributions in both of his appearances.

The Deadline Day loan of Benjamin Arthur from Brentford allowed Stephen Welsh to return to Motherwell.

Adamu’s buy option is reportedly worth £5 million, Mvuka’s £3.5 million and Cvancara’s exceeding £8 million.
