There’s little to worry about in overnight Eddie Howe to Celtic delay reports

Some fresh reporting has emerged about the Eddie Howe and Celtic situation.

The Scottish Sun, who were the outlet to initially report an agreement had been reached ‘in principle’ for Howe to become manager, reckon that there’s a potential hiccup in regards to Howe’s backroom staff.

It’s said that the former Bournemouth boss is keen to bring in his former coaching team Stephen Purches and Stephen Weatherstone from the Cherries.

With Bournemouth currently on a quest to return to the Premier League, compensation is reported to be potentially complicated with the duo receiving wage rises should they return to the top-flight.

The whole situation is framed as a reason that the Howe to Celtic move could fall apart. It’s claimed that the club could be priced out of the move for Howe, or that everyone will be waiting beyond the play-off final in May.

The reality is though that none of this is likely to have taken the Bhoys, or Howe, by surprise. Bournemouth have been in the play-off hunt throughout the season and certainly since the links to Howe firmed up.

If this was really a topic of so much concern, that could blow this deal up, it seems highly unlikely that both parties would allow discussions to reach this stage. Surely this would have come up before now?

Little to suggest Eddie Howe to Celtic situation has changed

The Celtic board, and indeed Howe, don’t strike me as the type of people who would risk their future on the whims and uncertainties of the Championship play-off system. This is too important.

Speculation about the Howe and Celtic situation is natural at this point. Everyone wants to explore potential reasons for a delay.

However, if Celtic were recently ‘relaxed’ and ‘positive’ about the situation this month, as discussed previously by journalists Stephen McGowan and Michael Gannon, there’s little reason to think that has changed.

Don’t get me wrong, the whole saga is dragging on a little longer than I would like. There could be any number of reasons Howe doesn’t end up at Celtic.

I just don’t see how Bournemouth’s play-off chances could be one of them.
