This has to be it Celtic – the final straw has finally arrived and Neil Lennon needs to be removed from his position.

Tonight’s 1-0 defeat to Ross County in Dingwall ended this mini-run the Hoops had been on. Indeed, Celtic came into the game having won five consecutive matches. We were to believe that this was some sort of turnaround for both the manager and the club.

Yet Lennon once again showed just how amateurish a manager he is tonight. Not only did he pick the wrong starting XI to begin with, he refused to make the necessary changes early enough in the game.

Fans had let Lennon know at the start of the evening how they felt about his line-up. Nobody was impressed. Why on earth was Tom Rogic being shoe-horned back into the team? Why was Scott Brown coming back in for Ismaila Soro when it was clear the latter is the future of the number eight position?

However, perhaps most embarrassingly of all was how we lost the game. Yet another set-piece. Jordan White ran off the ridiculously unaware Diego Laxalt to glance home from only yards out. Disgraceful man-marking but not unlike this Celtic team all year.

Celtic warning lights have been flashing; Neil Lennon has been hiding behind winning run

Going forward Celtic were so lacking in ideas too. Up against two low blocks, there appeared to be a strong lack of imagination. If it wasn’t clicking with Odsonne Edouard, there was bemusement as we simply passed around the Staggies penalty area with no real purpose. It was almost as if we hadn’t done any tactical work….

And make no mistake, tonight could’ve been any game over the last fortnight. Celtic weren’t impressive as our 4-0 win at St Mirren made us look. The 2-1 home win against Motherwell was almost embarrassing to celebrate. We had to come from behind to beat St Johnstone only a week ago. We came within an inch of the post from drawing to Aberdeen on Wednesday night also.

The form has certainly been different but this has been no rejuvenated Celtic side. In fact, we look as though we’re getting worse as the season progresses once again.

Tonight surprised nobody

It doesn’t matter how close we are to the end of the season, Neil Lennon needs removed now. The fans are being let down on a continuous basis this season, and the manager has failed to find the answers all season. This mini-run of form was already barely being acknowledged by supporters. This surprises absolutely nobody.

All of us could’ve seen this result coming a mile off. All we can hope as supporters is that it’s the final straw for the board just as it is for so many of us. It’s a reminder of just how far Celtic have regressed under this manager. One glance at Celtic’s social media accounts post-match shows the sheer disdain many of us now have for how this club has been operating this year.

We’ll see what the next 24 hours brings, but Lennon’s results this season tell a grim story. He’s not done enough to keep his job, and hasn’t done for some time.

In other news, a mystery double absence has yet to be explained by Neil Lennon.
