Thousands of supporters have taken to Instagram to show support for Celtic defender Jack Hendry after the injury he sustained while playing on loan at Melbourne City.

As reported by The Daily Record, the 24-year-old suffered a torn medial collateral ligament at the weekend and had to undergo surgery on Tuesday.

He’s expected to be out for a number of months, though could make a return to play for City before the end of May.

Although not getting a look in at Celtic for over a year, the Brendan Rodgers signing looked to have found a new lease of life in Australia after impressing on his debut.

However, in just his second appearance he went down late in the game and now faces a spell on the sidelines.

Hendry himself is trying to stay positive about it all, posting a thumbs-up picture to Instagram with the following message: “It’s been a very difficult few days for myself was absolutely gutted to injure my knee on Saturday night.

“Happy to say I’ve had my op and hopefully all is well and now on the road to recovery, can’t speak more highly of Melbourne City staff an players and the support they have given me and hopefully can be back on the pitch ASAP

“Thanks to everyone that has messaged means a lot and I appreciate it!”

Over 11,000 people have liked his post, showing immense support.

Nearly 200 comments have also been left wishing him a speedy recovery and a return to action, including former Celtic defender Marvin Compper.

Compper arrived in the same transfer window as Hendry and can perhaps relate to his Celtic situation, with the two often on the outside looking in.

Hendry still has two years left on his Celtic contract, so he has plenty of time to plot his next career move, whether staying at Melbourne City or moving elsewhere.

He may not have a future at Celtic Park but it’s never nice to see a player injured and hopefully he recovers from his problem fully.
