The 2026 World Cup will take centre stage on June 11 when Mexico take on South Africa for the opening game of the tournament.
Several Celtic stars are set to feature in the coming weeks, including two representing the co-host nations: Alistair Johnston with Canada and Auston Trusty with the United States.
There will be sections of the Celtic fanbase tracking their progress throughout the summer.
But how about former Hoops players featuring on world football’s biggest stage? 67 Hail Hail had a look at who you should look out for, including the competition’s oldest player, Craig Gordon.
Celtic fans, will you be tuning into the 2026 World Cup?
🚨 A lot of off-field noise around it 🚨
Craig Gordon, Scotland
Gordon might still be crying over Celtic beating Hearts to the Premiership title on the final day of the campaign.
But he celebrated six successful years at Parkhead, including winning 15 trophies, and is now a back-up shot-stopper at Tynecastle.
At the age of 43, he will be the oldest player at this summer’s World Cup, and there is a chance he could start Scotland’s opening game against Haiti.
| Date | Match | Venue | Kick-off (UK) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14 June 2026 | Haiti vs Scotland | Boston Stadium, Massachusetts | 02:00 BST |
| 19 June 2026 | Scotland vs Morocco | Boston Stadium, Massachusetts | 23:00 BST |
| 24 June 2026 | Scotland vs Brazil | Miami Stadium (Hard Rock Stadium), Florida | 23:00 BST |
Kristoffer Ajer, Norway
After a 28-year absence, Norway returned to the big stage when the likes of Erling Haaland fired them to the World Cup.
Norway boss Ståle Solbakken might be moaning about Scotland cancelling a recent warm-up match, but a certain former Celtic defender is expected to start with them at the back.
Just like Gordon, Kristoffer Ajer also spent several successful years at Parkhead before moving to Brentford and helping them cement themselves as a solid Premier League team.

Hyeongyu Oh, South Korea
Given Celtic’s striker troubles, this is a player Celtic probably shouldn’t have sold.
Hyeongyu Oh left Parkhead in 2024 and moved to Genk in Belgium, including scoring against Rangers at Ibrox in the Europa League.
Now at Beşiktaş in Turkey, where he has made a stellar start, the 25-year-old is set to participate in his first World Cup, and will be hoping for some quality service from Celtic’s much-improved winger, Hyunjun Yang.
