Neil Lennon has confirmed the news that a lot of Celtic fans would have wanted to hear – Tom Rogic is back, fit and available for selection.
The Aussie last featured in May’s Scottish Cup final victory over Hearts. He’s missed 13 matches and 41 goals since, a total that is likely to rise tomorrow in Lanarkshire.
Neil Lennon confirmed the news to press, including STV, on Friday afternoon.
Lennon said: “Tom Rogic is fit now. That’s a welcome boost, a player of that quality.”
Could we see Rogic playing for Celtic this weekend?
The likelihood of Rogic starting the game against Brian Rice’s side is probably pretty low, but you could see him being introduced for a cameo if the game is sewn up nice and early.
Lennon is right, having the 26-year-old back is a terrific boost to our chances. If Rogic can recapture his form from a couple of seasons ago then he will once again become one of our top players.
The attacker is a unique talent in many ways. He gives us a link between midfield and attack that perhaps nobody, other than Ryan Christie, does.
And it is the Scotland international with who he will fight it out for a starting berth. It promises to be a fascinating battle between two players who have the potential to light things up when in form.
Rogic will be like a new signing for Celtic. His inclusion will create even more competition in our first-team. That has to be one of the real strengths about the current Hoops squad – there is competition everywhere.
