Tony Docherty and Lyall Cameron share how Luke McCowan is coping amid interest from Celtic

Celtic’s interest in Luke McCowan is one that has been grabbing the headlines over the last few days.

We discussed back in June how Celtic were tracking the impressive midfielder as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his team before the transfer window closes.

With interest in Matt O’Riley remaining high, Rodgers may need to look at reinforcing his midfield should the Dane leave the club and it seems that McCowan could be one that is being considered by the Celtic manager.

With Hibs also in the mix and having a bid booted out last week, speculation over Luke McCowan‘s immediate Dundee future is high and it seems that the chat surrounding a move to the Scottish champions and the Easter Road club isn’t affecting the 26-year-old.

Celtic rumours not affecting McCowan

Speaking after Dundee’s win over Airdrie, Dundee teammate, Lyall Cameron has shared how McCowan is dealing with all the hype surrounding a move to either Hibs or Celtic and if it’s affecting him at the club.

Cameron told the Daily Record [print edition page 58], “There’s no sign of that at all, Luke was so good again out there.

“As far as I’m concerned, he still plays for us, he’s still putting in good performances and trying his best for this team.

“You can’t ask for much more. If Luke is still here after the window shuts, that would be really good.

“We’ve got a very strong team and small squad so we need to hold onto him and keep going well as he’s a big part of our team.”

McCowan’s Dundee ‘focus’ amid Celtic chatter

Dundee manager Tony Docherty has also spoken about McCowan’s focus as the 26-year-old helped hammer Airdrie 6-1 in the League Cup at the weekend.

Docherty told The Courier [print edition page 56], “Luke’s focus is like mine – absolutely laser-focused on the job for Dundee.

“Again his performance today showed that.”

This isn’t the first time Docherty has had to speak out about his player amid the rumours that Celtic could be about to come calling.

Docherty has praised McCowan’s professionalism and leadership and it seems that the Dundee manager remains pleased with his captain’s attitude.

As for Celtic, there has been a mixed reaction to the club’s interest in the Dundee player. Andy Walker believes McCowan could be as good as Ryan Christie whilst former Celtic defender, Mark Wilson, thinks the midfielder won’t add anything more than what Rodgers already has at the club.

However, with a fee of just £1m, adding McCowan to the Celtic squad doesn’t seem like a high-risk move considering he would contribute to the Parkhead club’s homegrown quota for the Champions League.
