Uncomfortable start for Celtic loanee Osaze Urhoghide in Saturday Oostende debut

Celtic talent Osaze Urhoghide had a difficult evening on his debut for Oostende vs Mechelen in the Belgian top-flight.

Urhoghide moved on loan to Oostende in January but has had to remain patient for an opportunity, sitting out matches against OH Leuven and Zulte Waregem.

Tonight he got the chance to start on the right flank in a 3-4-3 system, according to WhoScored.

However, with his team down 1-0 at the interval, he was one of the players substituted off in an apparent tactical switch from new manager Yves Vanderhaeghe.

Vanderhaeghe has only just taken charge of the Belgians after replacing Alexander Blessin, who has moved to Genoa in Serie A.

Unfortunately for Urhoghide and Oostende, his changes didn’t work, with the away side conceding another two goals in the second half to lose 3-0.

Urhoghide will be hoping for better times ahead but Oostende increasingly find themselves drawn into a relegation battle towards the bottom of the table.

Vanderhaeghe, who also managed the club between 2015 and 2017, will need a reaction from his players in the coming weeks.

Oostende did good work rehabilitating Jack Hendry’s career, so there will be hope they can help develop Urhoghide too.

The Belgians have an option to buy the Celtic talent, who joined the Bhoys last summer from Sheffield Wednesday.
