Greg Taylor has been told that he is still an important member of Celtic’s first team despite calls for the club to strengthen his position in January.
The Scotland full-back has continually been tipped to be replaced over the past two transfer windows and after Taylor picked up an injury in January, Alexandro Bernabei has been called up to step into his boots.
The Argentinian defender has been used sparingly this season by Brendan Rodgers and despite his mistake at Aberdeen that cost Celtic a goal, he has performed relatively well.
However, despite that, Taylor has been told by Andy Walker that he still remains the number one left-back at the club despite recent rumours that Celtic are looking to strengthen his position.
Walker said [The Go Radio Football Show], “The fact remains that Greg Taylor, despite him [Alexandro Bernabei] having been there, has always been the undisputed number one.
“I know a lot of Celtic supporters would like the left back area to be strengthened, I think he’s [Bernabei] been okay in the last couple of games nothing more than that.”
Greg Taylor has been a fine fullback for Celtic over the past three seasons. Admittedly, he struggled in his first season at the club but coming in as a direct replacement for Kieran Tierney was always going to be a hard act to follow.
However, it was under Ange Postecoglou that Taylor came into his own. The inverted full-back role really suited the 25-year-old and he became a mainstay in a team that won five trophies out of six under the former Australian gaffer.
However, Taylor has struggled to recapture that form under Rodgers and was found wanting in the Champions League this season.
Taylor’s form has picked up recently and there is no doubt that when he recovers from injury he will be straight back into Rodgers’ side for the remaining thirteen games of the season.
