‘Unfathomable’ – Stunned Chris Sutton makes irrational Celtic and Rangers comparison

Chris Sutton and Brendan Rodgers are frustrated Celtic men.

The manager’s calls to be backed further in the transfer market are growing louder as Celtic struggle to recruit the quality needed for the new season and beyond.

While Sutton is panicking over the situation having voiced his concerns all summer about the Hoops’ lack of progress in the window.

With just one month of transfers to go, Rodgers says he needs to convince the board further to allow him to spend on the players he wants at Celtic Park.

Sutton thinks Celtic are in same situation as Rangers

The boss, in particular, wants two new wingers given Jota’s long-term injury and the sale of Nicolas Kuhn last month to Serie A side Como.

On the other side of the city, Rangers have seemingly recruited well in that department, leading Sutton to declare that Celtic are now in a similar situation to their great rivals.

He thinks both clubs are now works in progress with plenty of work still ahead heading into the new season. And that, for him, is completely unthinkable.

Writing for the Daily Record, Sutton said: “Rangers have recruited some interesting players. I’ve got a close friend who follows Sheffield Wednesday and they tell me Djedi Gassama is a player.

“He’s made a heck of a start though and now with Mikey Moore arriving, Celtic fans must be looking at all these wingers and wondering how they can do it and not them.

“It’s understandable Rangers are a work in progress. It’s unfathomable Celtic are in the same boat.”

Sutton is overreacting again

In June, Sutton was the loudest when it came to voicing his concerns over Celtic’s transfer activity. The window had only just opened and he was worried.

There was no need for that then and it was an overreaction, as are his latest comments about Celtic being in a similar situation to Rangers.

You can argue that both are ‘works in progress’ – but absolutely not to the same extent. Rangers have a new manager with a totally new squad.

Celtic have continuity and while more work needs to be conducted in the transfer market, the Hoops are still miles ahead of their city rivals.
