Video: The unbelievable Kyogo-esque Daizen Maeda hat-trick Celtic supporters must watch

We’ve already had some highlights of Reo Hatate to enjoy today, so why not another new Celtic Bhoy? This time, it’s Daizen Maeda’s turn.

Everyone will know by now that Maeda finished the top scorer in the J1-League last year, with 23 goals in total. But what you might not know is the style and manner he banged them in.

What’s startling is how similar his style is to our star Kyogo Furuhashi. In fact, these official highlights on YouTube of a hat-trick against Oita Trinita in August 2021, during which he also creates an assist, is very reminiscent of the summer signing.

The way he moves off the ball to spring offside traps, the space he creates for himself in the box, the audacity of his second goal, the poacher’s instinct. It’s all there.

I’m not saying he’ll make as big an impact as Kyogo. We don’t know that. There is a myriad of factors as to why a player becomes a success at Celtic, not least a bit of luck.

Nonetheless, Ange Postecoglou knows exactly what he’s doing here. He’s bringing in another defence-killer from Japan that can create a dual-threat with Kyogo.

If they struggled with one lightning-quick attacker in Scotland, why not have two? At the very least, we should create chaos for the assistant referees and that’ll be fun, won’t it!?

In all seriousness, I’m incredibly excited about Maeda being unleashed on Scottish football. Not just because of the clip above, but because there are many more out there like it.

He has every chance to be a consistent force for this Celtic team and it should be exciting watching him take the journey.
