Celtic loanee Dane Murray continues to make progress after recovering from a spate of injury issues that have slowed the early part of his career.

After spending time with the Bhoys’ senior side in pre-season, Murray completed a loan move to Queens Park and has since made three appearances with the Spiders and had no fitness complications.

Previously, the 21-year-old suffered a cruciate ligament injury that kept him out for a year. Having to navigate a long road, he is only starting to get back in his groove.

Nevertheless, he has made the step up to Under-21 level with Scotland and featured in their defeat to Spain last Friday at Tynecastle, making his debut.

Now, Murray has taken the next step after getting himself on the scoresheet against Malta last night at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium.

Dane Murray scores on international duty

Murray started for Scotland away to Malta last night and scored his first goal for the Tartan Army’s Under-21 side in a comprehensive 5-0 victory.

As seen below, the Celtic loanee directed a brilliant glancing header into the bottom corner following a sweeping free-kick from Lennon Miller.

An own goal from Matthew Ellul and strikes from Josh Mulligan, Motherwell talent Millar and Robbie Neilson put the seal on a comfortable night for the Tartan Army.

Scotland have moved to second place in Group B on goal difference, with Belgium trailing in their wake as Scot Gemmill bids to take his side to Euro 2025.

Following his first taste of the action, Murray will be determined to force his way into their squad for clashes against Belgium and Kazakhstan next month.

Either way, it is refreshing to see the Celtic youngster on the pitch after a torrid period out with debilitating injuries.
