The key aim for Dane Murray on his loan move to Queen’s Park from Celtic is getting regular week-to-week football without any injury complications.

Murray burst onto the Celtic scene as an 18-year-old under Ange Postecoglou back in 2021 when he was featured in UEFA Champions League qualifiers against Midtjylland due to Celtic lacking defensive depth.

However, a series of debilitating injuries since then severely impacted his development and he’s only now returning to full fitness.

He was part of Celtic’s pre-season preparations and Brendan Rodgers managed to get a good look at his current status before deciding a season of senior football is what he needed to progress further.

Despite confirmation of his loan only going through on Friday morning, he’s already getting that game time and was featured in Queen’s Park’s 1-1 draw with Livingston last night.

Dane Murray praised after first senior start in over three years

Murray played the entire 90 minutes as part of a back three and earned praise from his new manager Callum Davidson post-match.

The Spiders boss said [Queen’s Park]: “I’ve got to say Dane was outstanding. He’s a young man with huge potential. We’re delighted we got him in. He’s very close to Celtic here, they can keep an eye on him.

“We think he’s got enormous potential. If he plays like he did today, there’s only one way Dane is going to go and that’s up the way. Hopefully we can see more performances like that.”

Murray now looking for consistent spell

The youngster is keen on getting as much football as he can on his season-long loan, telling the Queen’s Park media team post match: “That’s one of the reasons why I came to Queen’s Park. The club is really well run, the facilities are great.

“I can come and show what I can do and play as many games as possible. There were a few teams but as soon as Queen’s Park came in it was almost a no-brainer, it was easy.”

Murray signed a two-year contract extension at Celtic back in May which runs until the summer of 2026 so he still has time to make progress as a potential Bhoys player.

A strong season on loan in the Scottish Championship would do wonders for those chances.
