Celtic have today completed the signing of Sheffield Wednesday youngster Osaze Urhoghide..
The club today stated that the player has signed a four-year contract after his contract with the Championship club expired. The Daily Record had previously reported that clubs such as Benfica and Sprting Lisbon were also in the mix.
So much research will now be getting carried out on him by Parkhead fans who are unaware of the player’s talents. However, you should also take a look at the interview he gave post Brighton back in January 2020.
The defender was handed his senior debut in a 1-0 FA Cup win against the Seagulls. And as he was interviewed by Sheffield Wednesday’s official media channel after the game, his youthful enthusiasm stood out as the Owls’ fanbase became enamoured with him:
The clip can’t help but take you back to the Jeremie Frimpong interview after the 2020 Betfred Cup final win against Rangers at Hampden [BT Sport].
He shows that same level of delight and infectious enthusiasm that supporters can get behind. Of course, since then, he’s gone on to become a regular in the Wednesday squad before signing today.
Osaze Urhoghide arrives at Celtic with similar experience to Liam Shaw
In total Urhoghide has made 21 appearances for the Championship club. This was after coming through the ranks with AFC Wimbledon in his younger days.
At 20 years of age, the centre-back qualifies for the Celtic B team if that’s the route we go down. However, it remains to be seen whether Celtic potentially view him as able to compete for the centre-back positions immediately.
His arrival also sees him join up with a fellow former teammate in Liam Shaw. Shaw also signed from Wednesday and has been training with the senior side after only managing 26 outings for his former club.

Before officially losing Urhoghide to Celtic, the news didn’t go down with the Sheffield Wednesday support. A fanbase that’s still clearly reeling from losing Shaw to Parkhead.
But with a host of clubs interested in securing Urhoghide, it looks like this is a coup for the Hoops. Hopefully, we catch a glimpse of him in next week’s training camp in Wales.
At the very least, we’ll be getting an infectious individual if his post-match interview after his Wednesday debut is anything to go by.
