‘We never stop’ has become a popular phrase of Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou, and it describes how he expects his team to play.

Players such as Daizen Maeda showcase perfectly what is needed from an attacking player in this system, pressing from the front foot right from the first whistle. Work ethic is crucial.

So, you would imagine that is something the Celtic manager will be looking for when trying to sign any new attackers in the summer window.

Earlier today, reports suggested that the club were ‘keeping tabs’ on the Derby County captain Tom Lawrance, whose contract is due to expire at Pride Park.

The winger enjoyed a good season with the financially troubled side last season, scoring 11 goals and providing a further five assists.

However, it won’t just be his goals and assist numbers that Postecoglou and his coaching staff are going off. Especially if Wayne Rooney’s thoughts on the player are anything to go by.

Speaking earlier in the season, the former Manchester United legend was impressed with the 28-year olds ability to lead the side as captain.

But, he was also very impressed with Lawrence’s work ethic off the ball, explaining how he leads the Derby side from the front.

He said [Derby County]: “Tom has been excellent and he really has led by example on the pitch.

“I know some people may have looked at the decision I made in the summer, when I made him captain, and thought it was a bit controversial – but I knew it was in Tom.

“I have known him for a long time, since he was a young lad at Manchester United, and I know how to get the best out of him.

“I think we are seeing his quality from an attacking point of view, but what sometimes goes unnoticed is the work rate and effort he is putting in during every game.”

Lawrence could be a good option at a bargain price

Heading into the summer transfer window, fans will be hoping that the club the club have done their homework early on potential targets.

So far, there seem to be positive signs that they have with the recent links to defensive reinforcements.

Going off Rooney’s previous comments about Lawrence, it suggests he is another player who would be a good fit in this Celtic side, thanks to his work ethic.

Of course, there are many more factors to consider before making a move to bring the former Manchester United academy player to the club.

But, there appear to be some promising signs that Lawrence could be a good option for Celtic to sign this summer at a very low price.
