Peter Schmeichel was in attendance as Celtic secured another point in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Kasper’s dad has become a regular follower of Celtic ever since his son joined the club in the summer and he enjoyed a much calmer evening in Croatia’s capital.

The reason for that is Peter Schmeichel was in attendance for Celtic’s drubbing against Borussia Dortmund on matchday two of the Champions League.

That wasn’t an easy watch for anybody and a nightmare evening for everyone involved, although, the reaction from the players since must be applauded.

Celtic’s draw against Zagreb means that Brendan Rodgers’ have now kept back-to-back clean sheets on the road, including against Serie A high-flyers Atalanta.

The game against Zagreb wasn’t exactly free-flowing, with the away team in control, but Schmeichel senior couldn’t understand what he was watching.

Two games remain of this league phase – a home clash against bottom-of-the-table Young Boys, before Celtic’s showdown at Villa Park – at a minimum, three points are on offer there.

It’s a different story for Dinamo, though, because they have an away trip to Arsenal and then a home tie against AC Milan to come.

That’s why Peter Schmeichel just couldn’t understand the home team’s approach against Celtic because their qualification isn’t set in stone yet.

The Manchester United legend also added that the champions of Scotland will be ‘very happy’ with the point and how the pitch ‘wasn’t very good’, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (10/12/24 at 7:45 pm).

“It wasn’t a classic, to be completely honest, but it was a point for Celtic,” said Schmeichel. “I think Celtic will be very, very happy coming and getting a point. I still don’t understand Dinamo’s approach to this game. They have eight points now. Their next two games are Arsenal away and Milan at home. Hard games if they need points to get into the qualification places.

He then added later on about the pitch: “What you don’t see in the pictures is the pitch wasn’t very good. It was really, really poor.”

Match stats from Celtic’s draw v Dinamo in the Champions League

Given the lack of attacking threat from the home side, even Peter would have been able to spend time in the net during parts of the game.

Yes, Celtic themselves could have been better with the ball because they did dominate possession. In total, they had 68.8% of the ball, as posted by BBC Sport.

Added to that, Dinamo had 11 shots at goal – two on target. To Celtic’s seven and one on target.

But Rodgers’ side had more touches in the opposition area – 24 to Zagreb’s 20, with the Bhoys also forcing ten corners during the match.
