Johnny Kenny’s return to Celtic in January was well-timed after the sale of Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes.
The young Irish striker was in great form on loan as Kenny enjoyed a successful Shamrock Rovers spell that saw him win a League of Ireland title and gain European football experience.
Kenny has made seven appearances for Celtic since his January return and he will be hoping to see more first-team action when the new season kicks off in August.
However, what are Kenny’s chances of realising his Celtic dream? Here, former Hoops defender Adam Matthews shares some good words of advice for the young Irishman.

Adam Matthews shares solid advice to young Celtic striker Johnny Kenny
Matthews is currently plying his trade at Kenny’s loan club and here he shares with the Shamrock Rovers players what he thinks of the 21-year-old striker’s chances of becoming a regular Celtic starter.
Matthews told the Daily Record, “He’s done really well this season for Celtic when he’s played.
“I spoke to a couple of the boys about him and they were like, ‘How do you think he’ll do at Celtic?’
“He showed in Europe last year what he can do. Obviously, it’s going to be tough at Celtic, especially with the strikers that they’ve got.
“But he’s just got to be patient and wait for his chance. And like he has done when he gets his chance to do his best and hopefully score a couple of goals.“
Celtic striker Johnny Kenny’s record at Shamrock Rovers
Kenny has scored just one goal for Celtic since his January return from Shamrock Rovers.
| Johnny Kenny | Played | Goals | Assists |
| Shamrock Rovers | 76 | 26 | 8 |
Of his 26 goals, Kenny has scored seven of those on the European stage either in Champions League qualifiers or in the Conference League group stage.
Does Kenny have a future at Celtic as the main striker? Probably not, but there is no denying that he shows promise and does need a chance to prove himself.
