Celtic are now preparing to take on Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday as Brendan Rodgers looks to banish the ghosts of Borussia Dortmund.

The Hoops boss will feel as if he has a point to prove after Celtic conceded seven in a heavy Dortmund defeat that deflated the Parkhead support.

With the Europa League holders up next, Celtic is about to be tested again but Atalanta’s Ederson is not paying any attention to the Bhoys’ humbling in Dortmund with a firm verdict about the Scottish champions.

Ederson says Celtic’s Dortmund defeat was ‘an accident’

The Brazilian international was speaking about the upcoming game against Celtic and whilst Ederson admits the Serie A side has watched the Hoops, the midfielder reckons Atalanta is going to see ‘a reaction’ in Wednesday night’s showdown in Bergamo.

Ederson told the Daily Record print edition page 48, “This is not an easy match for us.

“Celtic’s last defeat in the Champions League was like an accident.

“They are a good team and I’m convinced they’ll show a reaction in Italy.

“People who believe the Scots will be comfortable to play against are mistaken. I couldn’t believe an experienced goalkeeper like Kasper Schmeichel conceded seven goals.”

“Obviously, there was a difference between the teams. But it was an excessive defeat for Celtic.

Ederson believes Celtic can cause Atalanta ‘many problems’

And, in his verdict over Celtic’s heavy loss in Dortmund, Ederson believes that even though Rodgers’ side was well beaten, Atalanta would not take anything for granted.

Ederson continued, “We’ve watched them and they are a team who can cause their opponents many problems in attack.

“With the new format of the Champions League, we must try to win at home. These points could be decisive for us in the table.

“We are favourites but we have to be motivated.”

Celtic fans will be hoping for a much-improved performance in Italy and hope that Brendan Rodgers can mastermind a positive result against the Serie A side.

Atalanta enters the game after having beaten Venezia over the weekend, while Celtic are still wondering how they let a two-goal lead slip in the draw with Aberdeen.

But what is certain is that Rodgers cannot allow another heavy defeat in the Champions League if he is to convince Celtic supporters that progress is to be made UEFA’s top competition.
