What Atlanta United posted on social media as MLS make bizarre announcement about Celtic hero Kyogo Furuhashi

This has to be one of the strangest transfer stories involving Celtic that 67 Hail Hail can remember in a long time.

Kyogo Furuhashi appears to be at the centre of a mysterious transfer triangle after the MLS made an announcement the Celtic striker had joined Atlanta United last night.

The announcement was made roughly around 10pm last night after the US National Association published an article claiming the MLS side had ‘acquired’ the Hoops striker.

However, hitting the link takes readers to a page saying ‘MEGGED’ as the article has now been removed from their site.

The announcement was strange for two reasons. The first, and most obvious one, was that Kyogo had played in Celtic’s win over Dundee United last night after coming on as a second-half substitute.

If the Celtic striker had indeed signed for Atlanta then there is no way he would have been allowed to take part in the Hoops’ victory over Jim Goodwin’s team.

But the second reason, and the most important one, was what Atlanta United posted on their social media channel hours before the MLS decided to publish their article.

Atlanta United’s latest transfer update quashes mysterious announcement about Celtic’s Kyogo

Atlanta United had teased just 48 hours earlier that an announcement was imminent as they posted on X, “Vol. 1 ⏳乞うご期待 5StripesDontStop”.

Translating the Japanese message, it reads, ‘Stay tuned’. This led to online murmurings amongst Celtic fans that Kyogo could be on his way to the club.

However, nothing could have been further from the truth after Atlanta announced the signing of Japanese star, Cayman Togashi, on a free transfer.

That announcement was made a full hour before the MLS decided to publish their article which, has now, embarrassed the national association.

The Celtic striker was linked to Atlanta United not too long ago. 67 Hail Hail discussed on Christmas Eve how the Japan international may be subject to a £10m bid by the MLS side.

After signing their new striker, that should put this particular rumour to bed after Kyogo was once linked with a move to Man City over the summer.

Kyogo still has two and a half years left to run on his Celtic deal that stretches to 2027 and, as yet, there is nothing to suggest the former Vissel Kobe striker is looking for a Parkhead exit.

With seven winners medals to his name, Kyogo is chasing another treble as the Celtic striker closes in on another Scottish title after picking up the League Cup after the Bhoys beat Rangers in the Hampden final last month.
