Brendan Rodgers was a busy man for Celtic in the transfer window, especially after being handed the task of finding Joe Hart’s heir.

An incredible 20 goalkeepers were linked to Celtic after Joe Hart announced his retirement as the media went into overdrive with speculation on who Rodgers will identify as the perfect replacement for the popular Englishman.

However, Rodgers identified the big Dane as his man and Schmeichel signed for Celtic in July and he has not looked back since.

Out of contract and appearing at Euro 2024, Schmeichel could have had the pick of many clubs so what did Brendan Rodgers say to him that made the decision to join the Bhoys ‘easy’?

Ten-minute Rodgers chat convinced Schmeichel on Celtic move

Schmeichel told the Daily Record, “It was a very brief conversation because as soon as I spoke to Brendan and having worked with him at Leicester and knowing his style, knowing what he’s about, how he wants his teams to play, how he makes the club tick and how he wants things to be, it was quite easy.

“When a club the size of Celtic comes and wants you to play for them, the conversation can’t have been much more than five or ten minutes long.”

Kasper Schmeichel’s impressive Celtic numbers leave the fans wowed

Schmeichel immediately impressed the Celtic fans on the US Tour after performing in the wins over DC United, Man City and Chelsea.

The big Dane brings leadership and calmness to the Celtic defence and it is already paying off this season.

With just four goals conceded domestically, Schmeichel has been a rock between the sticks for Celtic and had it not been for the big goalkeeper, the Bhoys’ defeat in Dortmund would have been much worse.

Schmeichel’s contract is up at the end of this season however there is the option to extend it for another year should Celtic and the Denmark international want to.
