The talk of Kasper Schmeichel joining Celtic has put the fire under the belly of the Parkhead support as they finally see the club making headway in adding new faces to the team this summer.
The Danish international is set to have a medical at Celtic next week and if all goes well, he should sign on the dotted line soon.
Schmeichel helped Denmark reach the last 16 of Euro 2024 and had an impressive loan spell at Anderlecht last season before his contract expired this summer.
And now on the cusp of signing for Celtic, a former Falkirk teammate has given the lowdown on what Cameron Carter-Vickers and Co can expect from Schmeichel if he does put pen to paper on a deal next week.
Schmeichel will expect a ‘high standard’ from Celtic’s defenders
Berwick Rangers manager, Tam Scobbie, was Kasper Schmeichel’s teammate when the big Dane was on loan at Falkirk way back in 2006.
And he has warned the Celtic backline that if they don’t perform consistently and to Schmeichel’s liking, the 37-year-old will have no qualms about letting them know about it.
Scobbie said [Daily Record], “Kasper expected a high standard and made sure the boys in front of him at Falkirk did their jobs.
“If you didn’t do that, he’d be first to make you aware of it. He wanted to win whether that was in games or training and if he had any goals scored against him in shooting drills you could see his anger. He raised the bar and made sure you were on it.
“That was the maturity he had at such a young age and it’s a huge factor why he went on to have an unbelievable career. He was a typically crabbit keeper – he liked to give out a wee bit of stick if you didn’t do something right.
“Let’s just say it would take a lot to get a “congratulations” out of him as he just expected you to do the basics well.
“He was a good kid and was great for Falkirk. It will be a great business for Celtic if he signs and he’ll more than fill the gap of Hart leaving.”

That is the sort of thing that will be music to the Celtic fans’ ears. The goalkeeper should always be in constant communication with his backline and we saw how effective Joe Hart was at it over his three years at the club.
The goalkeeping position is such an important position to fill at any club, not just at Celtic, and it seems that after having Schmeichel as his number-one at Leicester City, Brendan Rodgers sees him as the rightful heir to Joe Hart.
As always, Schmeichel like Hart before him will be judged by what he delivers on the pitch and if he is as half as successful as the former Celtic hero, then this will be a good bit of business by the club.
