Celtic’s win over Rangers set down an early season marker not only in terms of the result but also in terms of the performance.
Brendan Rodgers’ side was absolutely rampant after weathering an opening ten-minute spell by Rangers in which they threatened the Celtic goal, but never really had much in terms of penetration.
But as soon as Daizen Maeda’s opening goal hit the back of the Rangers net, it looked from that moment on that there was only really going to be one winner yesterday afternoon.
Kyogo Furuhashi added Celtic’s second but it was Callum McGregor‘s goal that put the icing on top of the cake for Brendan Rodgers.
Unseen Rodgers/McGregor Celtic moment
Callum McGregor, alongside Paulo Bernardo and Reo Hatate, ran the midfield yesterday but it was what the Celtic captain did with Brendan Rodgers after his screamer of a third goal that the club’s Unique Angle camera captured was absolutely class.
The sheer joy on both of their faces shows just how much yesterday meant to them and displays the bond Rodgers and McGregor have at Celtic.
Celtic’s dominance over Rangers continues
Brendan Rodgers is now six games unbeaten against Philippe Clement’s Rangers and as Celtic enjoys the plaudits, there is now untold pressure on the Ibrox manager.
For Rodgers, yesterday was his 18th game in charge of Celtic against the Ibrox club and out of those, the Irishman has won 14, drew three and lost just one.

Even the one Rodgers lost didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things because the 1-0 defeat to Steven Gerrard’s side in season 2019/19 didn’t affect Celtic’s season as they still went on to lift a treble.
However, since his Celtic return, Rodgers has won five against Clement but the win at Celtic Park will go down as the easiest of the lot.
Celtic’s next fixture is at home against struggling Hearts next Saturday at Celtic Park whereas Rangers face a tricky away trip to Tannadice to face high-flying Dundee United.
Any further slip-ups by Clement and another win for Rodgers will send Celtic into the international break flying and leaving their rivals in their wake.
