Callum McGregor has been at Celtic for almost all of his footballing career.
Aside from a loan spell at Notts County, the Celtic captain has been at the club since McGregor joined the club’s Academy in 2001.
Since then, McGregor has become one of Celtic’s most decorated players of all time with 24 major domestic honours to his name.
Now 31, McGregor is thinking about life beyond his playing days as he shares a private conversation he had with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers in Como.

Callum McGregor tells Celtic boss about his next career step
The Hoops captain is contracted to Celtic until the summer of 2028 so there is no need for the Hoops’ supporters to worry about McGregor’s retirement any time soon.
However, it’s clearly on the Celtic captain’s mind and this is what he told Brendan Rodgers about it when asked by an Italian journalist in Como.
McGregor told Celtic TV, “I think you were listening to our car journey there. Actually, we were just having a chat on the way from the airport about later down the line.
“Whether that be coaching or managing and just trying to prepare yourself for the next steps. I love football and I want to be part of football for the rest of my life.
“So eventually, when the time comes to hang up my boots as a player, then for sure I’ll be trying to use as much information as I can to then make the next step into whether that be coaching or management.”
Callum McGregor’s sterling Celtic career
As previously said, McGregor has been at Celtic for almost all of his career. Here is how he has fared at the Parkhead club:
- Appearances: 518
- Goals: 74
- Scottish Premiership titles: 10
- Scottish Cups: 6
- Scottish League Cups: 8
- Record vs Rangers: P43, W24, D7, L12
When the time eventually comes for McGregor to end his playing days, he and the Celtic support can look back on his career with a sense of huge pride.
