Kasper Schmeichel has been one of those in horrendous form for Celtic of late, and fans have made their feelings clear.

Schmeichel got a hand to Rangers’ second goal before letting a weak effort get the better of him for the away side to go 3-1 up.

Celtic’s Glasgow derby defeat against Rangers was as embarrassing as they come after undoing all of the good work in the first half.

Wilfried Nancy was at the epicentre of the criticism, but Schmeichel has endured plenty too.

Kasper Schmeichel booed by Celtic fans after third goal

Fans have had enough of watching bad performance after bad performance and want change sooner rather than later.

The goalkeeping department has been a huge issue as Schmeichel, who was so reliable last season, appears to have lost his spark.

After the third goal went in and the mood fully turned, the 39-year-old was subjected to boos every time he touched the ball.

It’s almost remarkable to see how someone so respected and loved 12 months ago has now left fans feeling like they need to boo him.

A Schmeichel replacement would be welcome in the transfer window – even if it may cost a pretty penny.

Should Viljami Sinisalo be the long-term replacement for Kasper Schmeichel?

Celtic need to think ahead to the long-term

Following Joe Hart’s retirement in 2024, all eyes were on who would come in to take the number one spot.

Everyone expected a long-term number one option but the Hoops decided to go with experience again and sign the Premier League winner.

That’s great for one season, but pinning your hopes on him for any longer was always likely to backfire.

Celtic are feeling that now and it needs to be addressed as part of a major rethink in their transfer policy.
