Marcelo Saracchi arrived at Celtic as Brendan Rodgers’ tenth signing of the summer.
The Uruguayan decided to leave the Argentine Primera Division side Boca Juniors for the Scottish champions as Saracchi looked to kickstart his career with Celtic in Scotland.
Since his move, Saracchi has made four appearances for the Bhoys and got to experience his first start at Celtic Park against Hibs at the weekend.
And whilst Celtic’s draw with Hibs was disappointing, what Saracchi did during the game has left fans buzzing and dropping a big question at Kieran Tierney’s door.

Marcelo Saracchi makes some Celtic fans look at Kieran Tierney
The Uruguayan defender arrived at Celtic as a relatively unknown quantity and many thought that he would play second-fiddle to Kieran Tierney.
Well, after his performance against Hibs, many Celtic fans appear to be revising that train of thought.
@jimmybhoycelts was over the moon with the fullback and said, “Thought he was brilliant today and I am not angry about not winning. I actually thought we played really good just one of those days I think lads.”
And it was then some fans started talking about Saracchi outshining Tierney this season:
@malky67 agreed and said, “An upgrade on KT. A far more polished footballer and much more ability on the ball.”
@charliemunro96 said, “A very good alternative to Tierney, absolute bags of energy and zero fear, everything we wanted Bernabei to be.”
Marcelo Saracchi’s stats vs Hibernian explain why Celtic fans are purring
The 27-year-old defender will return to Boca Juniors at the end of the season but after his latest performance against Hibs, Celtic fans will be keen to see his stay in Glasgow get extended.
Here is how Fotmob rated Saracchi’s performance:
- Minutes: 90
- Rating: 8.0
- Total Shots: 2
- Accurate passes: 84/90 (93%)
- Chances created: 3
- Hit woodwork: 1
- Touches: 116
- Touches in opposition box: 4
- Successful dribbles: 1/1 (100%)
- Passes into final third: 17
- Accurate crosses: 4/10 (40%)
- Accurate long balls: 4/5 (80%)
It seems that as an attacking force, Saracchi can offer Celtic the same, if not more, than Tierney does.
And after getting a full 90 minutes under his belt, it seems that the Uruguayan could very well have what it takes to make that left fullback slot his own.
