Callum Osmand’s injury just put the proverbial cherry on top of a miserable night for Celtic in the Europa League.

The young striker was stretchered off with ten minutes to go in Celtic’s defeat to FC Midtjylland after making an instant impact as a substitute.

Osmand won the Celtic penalty as his pace and direct running caused the Danes’ defence big problems as the young Welshman looked hungry after his Premier Sports Cup heroics against Rangers.

However, in just his third game for Celtic, the young striker was stretchered off with a hamstring injury.

And as Osmand was taken off the field of play, BBC touchline reporter Jane Lewis shared what FC Midtjylland boss Mike Tullberg did to help console the young Hoops forward.

FC Midtjylland boss Mike Tullberg offers ‘consolation’ to Celtic’s Callum Osmand

Celtic were well beaten on the night by the Danes but Tullberg showed some class as Lewis shared what he did as young Osmand was being carried off the park on a stretcher.

Lewis said on BBC Sport Scotland, “You could see how upset Callum Osmand was from where I’m sitting. He was absolutely distraught.

“A touch of class from the Midtjylland manager Mike Tullberg, who offered him a word of consolation as he left the field.”

What Celtic boss Martin O’Neill said about Callum Osmand’s injury

Immediately after full-time, Celtic boss Martin O’Neill addressed young Osmand’s injury and confirmed that the Hoops striker had pulled his hamstring.

The Celtic manager said, “Yeah, he’s pulled a hamstring and he’s never had that injury before, and that’s something that we’ll just have to deal with.

“It’s come at a really unfortunate time for him in the sense that he’s trying to break into the side and that’s a real shame for him.

“But he’ll recover in time and yeah, these injuries now seem to be taking longer, particularly in people who’ve had it for the first time.

“So, when he comes back again, you want him to be absolutely right so as not to redo these things, then it becomes an endless proposition.”
