Celtic have made the call to hand Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a new contract.

When Martin O’Neill needed help in January, he turned to the services of free agent Oxlade-Chamberlain, and he penned a short-term deal at Celtic.

Now Oxlade-Chamberlain is back in Celtic colours, but this time, he will have a pre-season under his belt, in the hope that it allows him to produce the quality he showcased as a Premier League footballer for many, many years.

67 Hail Hail has taken a look at the last time the 32-year-old was part of an entire season, because when he moved to Glasgow in the winter, he had been without a club for six months and was training with his former club, Arsenal.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s struggles at Beşiktaş

The last time Oxlade-Chamberlain was involved in an entire campaign was in 2024/25 for Beşiktaş under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but it didn’t go to plan.

The 35-cap England star left Liverpool in 2023 on a free transfer and secured a move to the Turkish giants.

His first season in Istanbul was steady, with 30 appearances in all competitions, including six games in Europe, as well as scoring against Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.

But during the 2024/25 season, Oxlade-Chamberlain only played 20 matches, first featuring in December, before ending the season with an injury and then having his contract terminated.

That road then led to the former England midfielder struggling to find a new home, before training with Arsenal for several months under the stewardship of his former teammate, Mikel Arteta.

That’s when O’Neill was aware of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s availability, and he snapped him up for nothing.
