Celtic are on the brink of creating more history this season if they can beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final.
Brendan Rodgers could write another chapter in Celtic’s history books by becoming the first manager to win three trebles as Parkhead boss.
The first treble Rodgers won as the Celtic manager was in 2017 after Tom Rogic popped up in the 91st minute to score the winner and crown the Bhoys Invincible Treble winners.
Bobby Madden was the match referee on that historic day Celtic broke Aberdeen’s hearts and this time, Don Robertson has been charged with the big Hampden date.
However, the last time the SFA appointed referee was the man in the middle for a Celtic-Aberdeen Scottish Cup tie, what he did broke the Pittodrie club.

The ‘penalty’ Don Robertson denied Aberdeen that left Celtic hero Carter-Vickers ‘on his knees’
The last Scottish Cup tie that featured Celtic and Aberdeen was the epic 3-3 semi-final which the Hoops eventually won on penalties.
However, there was a huge flashpoint where Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers appeared to concede a penalty when Robertson did this instead:
Indeed, the decision not to award Aberdeen the penalty was 100% correct but it didn’t stop the preceding fallout afterwards.
Celtic fans will be hoping that today’s game will pass with relative ease and that they will be watching their heroes on the podium come full time celebrating another treble.
Don Robertson’s refereeing record in Celtic fixtures, fans won’t forget major controversial game
Robertson is now one of Scotland’s most experienced referees but takes charge of his first-ever Scottish Cup final today.
However, in fixtures featuring Celtic, Robertson appears to be a bit of a lucky charm for the Parkhead club except for one big controversial game.
| Don Robertson | Played | Won | Drew | Lost | Yellow cards | Red cards |
| Celtic fixtures | 44 | 37 | 4 | 3 | 35 | 2 |
Of the two red cards, Robertson will be remembered for this one in Celtic’s high-profile defeat at Hearts last season:
Indeed, VAR played a huge part in that decision but that decision plus the penalty award caused ructions at Celtic and left Brendan Rodgers and the fans furious.
