Alexandro Bernabei has been something of an enigma at Celtic since he joined the club just over two years ago.

But as Bernabei found it extremely difficult to displace Greg Taylor and discipline issues put him on the wrong side of Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers, the 24-year-old quickly dropped out of the Celtic first-team squad.

After making just 28 appearances in the green and white Hoops, Rodgers shipped him out to Internacional on loan where, until now, Bernabei has found game time at the Brazilian side limited.

Bernabei’s first league start has the fans talking

Bernabei was picked to start Internacional’s crucial away tie to Bahia and after helping to secure a vital away point, the Argentinian took to Instagram and said, “Glad to play and be able to help the team on the pitch. We know our responsibility and we will work hard to win again.

“Thank you to my teammates and fans for their support.”

Despite barely featuring for the Brazilian Serie A side, Alexandro Bernabei appears to be a very popular player amongst most of the Internacional fans.

After playing the full 90 minutes in his first league start in the 1-1 away draw with Bahia, Bernabei was sent many messages of support from the Internacional supporters:

One fan commented, “You have the affection of the fans!” whilst another and a common message from many fans was ‘Joga muito‘ which translated means, “Play too hard!“.

This fan is delighted with Bernabei and can’t wait to see him improve the fortunes of the team:

Another Internacional fan said, “He deserved this title a long time ago” and another encouraged, “Let’s go Bernabei, you’re the starting point now.”

One believed that team would be better placed in the league had Bernabei been playing before now:

Bernabei loved by Internacional teammates

The first two players to comment on Bernabei’s status was Fabricio Bustos and Ecuador legend Enner Valencia:

Former Argentina centre-back and teammate Gabi Mercado also replied with, “Grande Berna!” whilst right-back, Hugo Mallo simply put:

Bernabei was one of Internacional’s stand-out performers on the day and was rated 7.3 by Fotmob after winning five duels, making 16 defensive actions, six ball recoveries and six interceptions to help take a precious point.

On loan until December, Bernabei will be hoping to improve his loan club’s fortunes as they sit in the precarious position of being just three points above the relegation zone.

Does Alexandro Bernabei have a future at Celtic? It’s highly doubtful but at least he appears to have found a home in Brazil albeit it temporarily as he looks to try and find himself a new club should Brendan Rodgers decide to cut Celtic’s losses.
