What James Forrest told reporters about finishing his career at Celtic

James Forrest hasn’t hung up his boots yet, but he is already a Celtic legend.

The 33-year-old started his career at Celtic Park in 2009 and has helped deliver trophy after trophy, with many more yet to come.

The reason for that is the performances Brendan Rodgers’ side are producing this season and the fact that Forrest has signed a new Celtic contract.

The one-club winger has penned a deal until 2026 and will remain at his boyhood club until, at least, the age of 35 and probably increase his chances of ending his career where it all started.

It’s not the norm for players, in the modern game, to be one-club men, but Forrest is on course to do just that.

You need to have the appetite and want to do it, and given how far the Scotland winger has come, then he has hinted that he would like it to happen.

James Forrest ‘not thinking’ about ending career at Celtic

You just feel that it would be the perfect way for Forrest to end his Celtic career and fitting for a player who deserves it.

Of course, if he has aspirations to taste football outside of Celtic, then the fans and everyone associated with the club will give their blessing to the player.

But, ahead of Celtic’s clash against Aberdeen, Forrest hinted about wanting to end his career at the club, as he told his pre-match press conference.

“I never really thought about it,” said Forrest about ending his career at Celtic. “When I get older, I have realised, especially the last couple of years when you are in the Celtic bubble and winning league titles, playing in the Champions League, then I don’t think there is much better.

“My role in the team has maybe changed in the last couple of years. I have still enjoyed and loved every minute of it. I am just going to keep working hard and be here as long as I can.

“I never thought about that, but as I am getting older, then I think it will be, aye.”

Forrest’s career stats for Celtic

Forrest has won 24 trophies at Celtic and it’s only a matter of time before he matches and then surpasses the great, Bobby Lennox, who sits top of the list.

Celtic play Rangers in the League Cup final later this month – to match that record – and you sense that winning the Premiership title will be the one where history will be made.

From Ronny Delia to two spells under Rodgers, it has been a career of pure entertainment from Forrest, with over 200 goal involvements to his name, as posted by Tranfermarkt.
