There have been a lot of rumours doing the rounds about what Brendan Rodgers’ role in Celtic’s recruitment is.

The Celtic manager has admitted that he has the final say on any player who is signed by the club regardless of the price.

Rodgers spent all summer asking the Celtic board for reinforcements as he prepared to take on four competitions this season.

So as the leader of the club, why didn’t Rodgers get what he was looking for? Mark Guidi shares what he ‘understands’ about the Celtic boss’ role in the club’s recruitment process.

Paul Tisdale and Brendan Rodgers’ role in Celtic’s transfers

As Celtic fan unrest continues, with recruitment being the straw that broke the camel’s back, Guidi has shared what he knows about Rodgers and Paul Tisdale’s role in the club’s transfers.

Guidi told The Go Radio Football Show [53m 45s], “From what I understand, I’ve got insight into a specific transfer at Celtic that actually didn’t go through.

“It didn’t get over the line, but what I understand is that Brendan Rodgers and Paul Tisdale will identify players.

“Now, there are various scouts who will report to Paul Tisdale as their kind of line manager, and then Brendan and Paul will have conversations and identify who they want to go for.

“That particular name or particular names are then given to the board, or probably Michael Nicholson as chief executive in terms of him going to get them over the line.”

What Brendan Rodgers has a say in about Celtic’s transfers

With Celtic fans losing patience over who was negotiating transfer deals this summer, Guidi then goes on to share exactly what Rodgers does not get involved in.

Guidi continued, “To the best of my knowledge, Brendan Rodgers does not get involved in negotiations. So he doesn’t decide whether it’s 3.5, 4.5, 5 or 6 million quid.”

“He doesn’t decide whether a player gets 10, 20, 30 or 40 grand a week. All he does is identify players, and then basically it’s in the hands of the hierarchy to go and get it over the line. Now, I think that’s with players that Brendan identified.

“Now, it also looks like what’s been going on for a few years. And again, you look at the couple of Japanese boys that have come in this summer, it looks as though there may be, that I don’t know who identifies them, but it looks so that maybe sometimes Brendan’s, there’s maybe like a certain budget set aside for what would you call development players.”

Celtic fans only have two-and-a-half months to wait until the next transfer window. Should Rodgers not get the players he requires then, it is likely supporter action against the board will intensify.
