Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is coming towards the end of his career.

Schmeichel arrived at Celtic last summer as replacement for the retiring Joe Hart and it’s fair to say he has been a rousing success under Brendan Rodgers.

Fresh from Euro 2024, the Denmark goalkeeper came to Celtic as a free agent and was close to winning his first-ever treble.

Now, with one year left on his contract and Viljami Sinisalo breathing down Schmeichel’s neck, Hoops legend Pat Bonner has shared what Man United icon Peter Schmeichel told him about how his son is really feeling now at Celtic.

Kasper Schmeichel is ‘really enjoying his time’ at Celtic

Schmeichel was an ever-present in the Celtic starting line-up last season and despite his mistake in the Scottish Cup final, the big Dane is still loving life at Parkhead.

Bonner told the Daily Record, “Kasper doesn’t have to worry. He won’t worry. At the end of the day, he’ll either play or not. Even if he doesn’t play, he’s going to be very happy to be here.

“I was talking to his dad, had a good chat with his dad on the plane going out and coming back, and he was talking about how Kasper’s really enjoying his time here at Celtic, and it’s a breath of fresh air for him.

“He’s won things, and he’s in a team that’s in Europe. It’s a fantastic place to come for a goalkeeper of that nature.

“He’s 38 years old, he knows he’s in his last couple of years, and if he isn’t no.1, he’s going to be their support, and he’s not going to throw the toys out of the pram. But it’s important that Sinisalo wants that position.

“Goalkeepers are very different. We work together, we room together, even though we were fighting for the position.”

Kasper Schmeichel’s superb debut season Celtic stats

Schmeichel has missed seven games last season for Celtic and had it not been for injury, he would probably have started every fixture under Brendan Rodgers.

So how did the Celtic goalkeeper do as he appeared in every competition the Bhoys took part in last season?

Let’s take a look:

Kasper’s best performance this season was undoubtedly Celtic’s draw at Atalanta in the Champions League.

And Celtic supporters will be keen to see more of those displays this season as Rodgers looks to win another treble and continue the club’s good progress in Europe’s elite competition.
